It is not all math and physics

posted by admin in Uncategorized

I don’t know why but ever since yesterday, I have been thinking about something besides the usual, you know math, physics, something that cannot be easily defined. I don’t even know how to call it, so I will just carry on writing, I hope that some of the things sound logical and familiar to you too. Well, on the other hand if you are not into such “things” please skip to one of the other articles on this blog.

Proving God in Physics

posted by admin in Uncategorized

I love arguing with people who claim that God does not exist simply because they cannot see a person with a white beard sitting on a cloud and smiling from the sky. And no matter how sensitive religion is as a topic of discussion among people, facts are to be respected and many people do not argue with atheists for example simply because they lack facts to prove themselves. However, facts do exist and physicists would quite often tell you that there is knowledge which man cannot access - it is either inaccessible or simply unattainable. The presence of specific molecular and inter-atom powers, the very formula of matter and the vast and unexplored depths of the Universe so support certain favoritism towards the belief in God. And I myself seem to be following this very direction.

You might not see God as a person dressed in white clothes! But you might calculate His presence - He would be that missing Number X from the equation that you will never figure out!

Healing Materials

posted by admin in Uncategorized

Have you ever heard of a plastic or metal material that can actually heal itself after being cracked? I sure we have all seen that in movies or read about it in science fiction books. However, it is becoming something that might find application in real life as scientists from the University of Illinois have made significant progress in developing healing materials (BBC reports - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-15096393). So imagine the container of your home heating oil cracks - do not panic, it would automatically repair itself and this is how such technology would be finding application in our every day lives.

Self healing materials of the new generation have been largely inspired by biological concepts and to some extent by certain species (mostly plant life). The mechanism of healing is relatively simple yet quite difficult to install into different materials. A material, say metal or plastic, is being used for the production of a certain device. Within the material itself scientists and engineers would install ’a blood system'- a network of fluid vessels filled with circulating repairing substance (like organic silicon or other dense liquid that would isolate any crack into the material). Once detecting change in pressure, the vessels would inject repairing substance into the crack and thus repair the material itself. tPreviously, as shown in the video above, only polymers could be regarded as self healing materials - however, with the newest discovery of scientists, metals and plastics, even glass, would be self healing thus offering unique opportunities for application.

Despite being perfectly suitable for home use, the materials of this kind would suit the most aircrafts and spaceships. The reason - because these vessels need constant attention when it comes to repairs - any crack might be fatal for the pilot, the crew or any passengers on board. The self healing material would not allow any complications in flights or missions and can also be largely used in the construction of bridges, buildings and underground tunnels and it would increase the safety of such constructions in times.

About Tesla Coils

posted by admin in Uncategorized

Tesla coils are best described as a special form of resonant transformer circuit. Nikola Tesla invented this technology in the early 1890s. It was thought to be very innovative at the time.

Telsa coils produce low current and high voltage electricity. They are also used to create high frequency AC electricity and they can create much higher amount of current when compared to all other sources producing high voltage discharges. And no electrostatic machine is a match for Telsa coils.

Mobile Maths

As a master of maths (or at least a good student) I am always looking to see how it is being taught in schools and around the world today. There is a skill shortage in mathematics and it is affecting important disciplines including engineering and construction. As I see more children with mobile phones glued to their ears I ask how is maths being taught and what impact (if any) do mobile phones have on its application?

What IS Time?

As someone who loves science, abstract ideas aren’t too difficult for me to get my head around. But often, when I try to explain these things to someone else, I find they look at me a bit…strange.

As someone who loves science, abstract ideas aren’t too difficult for me to get my head around. But often, when I try to explain these things to someone else, I find they look at me a bit…strange.

This is to be expected when you – me, in this case – spend all your time analysing data. I spend more time with numbers than I do with people, can you tell?

Anyway, one concept which I find really baffles people is that of time: what is time? Is time something we can measure? What does it mean?

Another one which literally shakes peoples worlds upside down is when I talk to them about the order in which things can happen: past, present, future.

See, although we like to think that the past has already happened, and the future is always a distance away, in scientific terms there is no reason to suggest they’re not one and the same thing. What I am saying is that a bowl of salad could fall off a table, and there’s no logical reason why it couldn’t just travel back up onto the table with the salad putting itself back where it was. It may sound crazy, but this is what we are dealing with at a bacterial level. That’s always been the way it is.

Of course, we all know that the bowl is very unlikely to just pick itself up. None of us have ever seen that happen at any point in time, so why should it happen now? And if we accept that…then what else might we accept? It’s understandable, I suppose, that a lot of people get freaked out about this stuff. It is very strange, and although us scientists say we understand it, the fact of the matter is that we don’t. (Although Roger’s wife, who works at laser hair removal london says she understands it. But then any wife of Roger’s would, the amount that man goes on about his scientific theories!)

Maths, Physics & The Web – A Deadly Cocktail

Maths, Physics & The Web – A Deadly Cocktail

The thing that I love the most about mathematics is that it is pure logic mixed with the most amazing numbers. In my opinion, there is absolutely no other stream that comes even close to being an art. The combination of mathematics and physics is a very interesting one. Of course, we are moving ahead and are discovering newer aspects and notions about each and every thing known about mathematics and physics.

Communication is one of the most important and indispensable aspect of human life. What we have learned and known is communicated one or the other way through the generations. Well to make it convenient different equipments have been invented over a period of time. Alexander Graham Bell a Scottish inventor was the one who invented the electric phone in March1987. From there we see the radio, television, telephones, gramophones and lots more and now we are in the age where More

F1’s wierd connections with engineering

F1 is connected to may other factors that we wouldn’t have thought off. To start off first would be the cannon. The artillery cannon, not the high tech ones but the considerably older ones had come up with a way to shoot cannon balls further than what they could shoot. Two projectiles, one that has a small gap between the projectile surface and the inside of the cannon is launched, and another which exactly fits in the cannons tube. The More

About Thermal Energy

I was at a science day at a friend of mines sons high school recently where there were many displays showing many different science projects and information. From DNA tests, the solar system, to arguable the most popular topic, thermal energy. Well at least to me. Here is a bit of what I learnt about thermal energy.

In a thermodynamic system a portion of its total internal energy is thermal energy. But basically the kinetic energy of the particles More

If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is. ~John Louis von Neumann
